Here's the short story: I'm an underemployed university academic, a former school teacher, and always a musician. Now here's the longer story...

Between 2004 and 2011, I worked on my doctorate in History at York University in Toronto. I researched the relationship between the youth movements of the sixties and early seventies (the New Left and the counterculture) and Christianity in urban Canada. In other words, I studied hippies, student radicals, Jesus People, and alarmed churchfolk. Following my PhD, I returned to my northern Ontario home town, to teach at the local university.

Before I returned to grad school, I taught high school History and English for four years in Thornhill. (I'm from northern Ontario originally.)

I play piano and sing. I did my undergraduate degree in Music at University of Western Ontario, and also attended Teacher's College there. About 5 years later, I did my MA at Queen's University (Kingston). The full-time teaching gig came after that.

I'm have an academic interest in religion and spirituality. But the interest is also personal. I try to abide by Jesus' teachings about love and forgiveness. And I still do church music -- pretty much every Sunday, at one church or another. (It's in my circuitry. For me, church is like Hotel California -- "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.) My family and many of my friends are evangelicals, and I love them dearly. But I also think it's important to have a sense of humour about religion, life, the universe and everthing.

Also, I'm queer, left-handed, and an ex-vegan. It is still unclear to me whether or not these things are related.

"There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

"There is another theory which states that this has already happened." (Douglas Adams)
"life is not about what we do when godot gets here

"it's what we do while we're waiting..." (foucaultonacid)
